Global  Software announces ship date for VisChem  Molecule Studio Version 1.1.

McLean, VA, December 19, 1994 - Global Software announced that
VisChem Molecule Studio version 1.1 will be released on December 20,
1994.  VisChem Molecule Studio is compiled tri-fat and will run on
Motorola, Intel and HP PA-RISC hardware. To run the application
NeXTSTEP 3.1 or higher is required

What is Molecule Studio?

Molecule Studio is the companion and natural extension of all
molecular modelling applications.

At present, many commercial and shareware molecular modelling
applications are available for various platforms.  However, they have
restricted capabilities in creating molecular images of highest
quality. The Molecule Studio has extraordinary capabilities for
creating high quality molecular images utilizing the NeXTSTEP
environment.  You can create your model with the usual modelling
software and import the data to Molecule Studio.  Enhance the
appearance of your model in an intuitive way by simple mouse
dragging. After that you simply can take a snapshot of the model,
either as photorealistic image or as PostScript image.  Further, by
using the drag&drop feature you can import your molecular image into
your preferred publishing software.  Images can be saved in different
(tiff, eps and rib) formats.

Photorealistic Images
Models can be displayed in three different styles:
                1. Ball&Stick;
                2. Spacefilling;
                3. Sticks.

Each style can be further enhanced by a sophisticated lighting
system and the possibility of changing color of single atoms and
bonds to highlight certain areas of the structure . For illumination,
ambient light, distant light and point light are available.

PostScript Images
A variety of display styles is  available for bonds and atoms.  Each
atom and bond can be individually selected and their attributes
changed. Atoms can  automatically be assigned with appropriate
labels.

Movies
This version also allows a customer to create simple movies of
molecular models. These movies  can be shown with the application
VisChem Movie. VisChem Movie is  provided free of charge with each
VisChem Molecule Studio application.

Data Format
Molecule Studio takes molecule data in a very simple data format.
Nevertheless, the application is able to read more than twenty common
molecular modelling data formats.

A demo version (limited to 15 atoms) of VisChem Molecule Studio will
be placed on the following ftp server:
ftp://ftp.cs.orst.edu    in the directory  /pub/next/demos/science
        as VisChemMoleculeStudio.app.NI.tar.gz
The demo is dual fat (NI) and comes with an extensive online help system.
